NPR has been asking listeners to describe 2011 in one word. My word would be adversarial. For me, there was too much conflict and opposition in 2011. I felt like I was butting heads with people constantly, in both my work life and my private life. So I would like these to be my personal buzzwords for 2012:
-- balance
-- collaboration
-- compromise
-- cooperation
Peace to all in 2012.

embrace the random xlix
Ana Somnia
A whole world waits for you when you turn out the lights. In our dreams lie childish figures, random shapes, and half-remembered memories. Each one is different yet somehow the same. Ana Somnia is a generative art project that emulates how we dream. Dim your lights to enter Ana's dreamworld.
Surreal animation, streams of unconsciousness, ambient carnival music -- this one has it all. Grab your favorite blanket and a cup of hot cocoa, then enjoy.

a tragicomedy in one act
Bookstore Clerk: Hi, how are you today?
Me: Good, thanks. How are you?
BSC: Another day in paradise. [smiles]
Me: [laughs politely] Yep.
Female Customer: Did you say "in Paris" or "in paradise?"
BSC: In paradise.
FC: Phil Collins has a song called "Another Day in Paradise." Did you know that?
BSC: [slighty taken aback] No, I didn't. I don't really like Phil Collins' music.
FC: It's a good song, very sad.
BSC: [dejected] Now I have to come up with a new phrase.
FC: Oh, I'm sorry.
Me: [laughing] She took away your paradise, man. [exits store]

quote of the day
It turns out that only twenty percent of human beings have a sense of irony — which means that eighty percent of the world takes everything at face value. I can’t imagine anything worse than that. Okay, maybe I can, but imagine reading the morning newspaper and believing it all to be true on some level. -- from JPod by Douglas Coupland

quote of the day
No one asks you to throw Mozart out of the window. Keep Mozart. Cherish him. Keep Moses too, and Buddha and Lao Tzu and Christ. Keep them in your heart. But make room for the others, the coming ones, the ones who are already scratching on the window-panes. -- Henry Miller

this guy made my day
He's referring to this scene from one of my favorites shows, The Big Bang Theory. The "Support Zombies" sticker is pretty funny too.
