something does not add up

Going by the above dates, Lester would have only been fifteen when World War II ended. Am I missing something? There has to be quite a fascinating story here.

The Navy has a long tradition of enlisting underaged sailors, and I'm sure the rules slacked up more than usual during wartime... I don't think they really started cracking down on the age requirements until well after World War II; so that could account for this one. I'm sure there must be a great story there, though.

It sounds like something out of an old Hollywood movie, but I believe it. Thanks for the info!
